The reaction intensified inside the arena when Trump appeared on the jumbotron during the national anthem while saluting from a suite owned by Knicks owner James Dolan. The crowd responded with a loud chorus of “booo”s that echoed throughout the venue.
Similar scenes reportedly unfolded outside Madison Square Garden at a public watch party in Bryant Park. Video clips shared online showed many Knicks fans booing when the president appeared on the screen, with some also making crude gestures.
On the court, the New York Knicks were defeated 115-111 by the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3. Despite the loss, New York maintained a 2-1 lead in the series. Game 4 is scheduled to take place in New York on Wednesday.
