Mainland Spokesperson Warns Lai’s Separatist Agenda Risks War

(MENAFN) A mainland spokesperson stated on Wednesday that more people in Taiwan are recognizing that the separatist stance of Lai Ching-te’s administration could lead to conflict and disaster for the island.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made these remarks during a routine press briefing. He referred to recent opinion polls showing that over 60 percent of Taiwan residents are unwilling to see themselves or their families drawn into battle in the event of a cross-Strait confrontation.

Chen emphasized that peace is the common aspiration of people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, while reunification remains the only feasible path for Taiwan’s future. He urged Taiwan compatriots to resist separatist activities, safeguard stability across the Strait, and encourage the peaceful advancement of cross-Strait relations.

Citing reports from Taiwan’s media, Chen noted that public dissatisfaction with Lai’s governance has stayed above 50 percent for six consecutive months. He argued that Lai’s authorities have escalated separatist rhetoric, obstructed exchanges between the two sides, made concessions to external forces at Taiwan’s expense, and pursued policies that harm Taiwan’s development and the wellbeing of its people. These actions, Chen added, run counter to mainstream public opinion on the island.
