Trump Announces Venezuelan Oil Transfer

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump declared that Venezuela’s interim leadership had consented to hand over between 30 and 50 million barrels of sanctioned crude oil to the United States, to be sold at market value.

“I am pleased to announce that the Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America,” Trump stated through his social media platform, Truth Social.

“This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that money will be controlled by me, as President of the United States of America, to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States!” he added.

Trump further noted that Energy Secretary Chris Wright had been instructed to carry out the plan “immediately,” with the oil to be shipped directly to American ports via storage vessels.

Meanwhile, US forces carried out extensive air raids on northern Venezuela over the weekend, striking air defense systems and communication networks. Special operations units also stormed Caracas to capture President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

During their initial court appearance on charges related to drugs and weapons, both Maduro and Flores entered pleas of not guilty.

The Trump administration has portrayed the mission as a renewed application of the Monroe Doctrine, aimed at combating alleged narco-trafficking and corruption, while also underscoring its intent to secure US leverage over Venezuela’s vast petroleum reserves.
